Livie's long legs were making her look quite too big for her beloved first bike. When we mentioned getting her a new bike as a birthday bonus gift, it caused hysterical tears and she refused to even think about it. This weekend, Sam took her to check-out bikes at Barnard's and they returned with...a bike bell. When I talked to her, she expressed her hesitation to get a new bike because she didn't want to hurt her old bike's feelings. We committed to keep the old bike for now too so little friends can use it when they come over.
We went back together and she decided on, "Cherry," this bright pink bike with cherries all over. They attached the bike bell and gave her a basket as a birthday gift and we even got a bike lock so she can ride to school. After all the hesitation, Liv is very happy with her new ride!
Yet today she told me, "Mom, sometimes it's hard to say goodbye to things you love." Yes sweet girl, it is.
