Sweet Penny

We unexpectedly and quickly lost our sweet Princess Penelope Grace of Bucktown late on Monday night. Our girl had started to show her age in the past few months and definitely was starting to slow down.  Penny was having a harder time getting down the back stairs in the morning, but still had a lot of pep in her step when she wanted it.  Yet last week she had two accidents overnight in the house, which is very unlike her.  And on Monday, she was acting weird, almost like she was trying to be alone or run away down the block.  When Sam took her for a walk before bed, she fell over and had a seizure and when she came back to was having a hard time walking and seeing.  Sam, Jim and Pat took her to the emergency vet, where they decided it was best to put her down rather than make her suffer with more seizures or a low quality of life.
I may never have met all the promises on my list to Sam for the reasons we should get a dog, but I loved Penny and knew she was the best dog ever. We were lucky to have her for as long as we did and hope we gave her a good pup life. The kids just adored her and probably took for granted just how gentle, sweet and loving she was with them.  It's funny looking back on pictures of her how we took her everywhere when she was a pup and all the pictures of our nieces/nephews as little babies with her.  Penny really was our first baby and helped start our family.
We are going to miss Penny more than words can express.  Goodbye sweet girl.
